Fallopian tubes are a pair of hollow ducts , made of three different kind of tissues ( mucosa, muscular  and serosa), that are located between the ovaries and the uterus. Each fallopian tube acts as a channel between the ovaries .

What are the functions of the Fallopian tubes?

• Holding place for eggs: Each month, one of the ovaries releases an egg as part of a woman’s menstrual cycle. Finger-like structures located at the end of the fallopian tubes, known as the fimbriae, sweep the egg into the tube.

Blocked fallopian tubes occur when one or both of the fallopian tubes are partially or completely obstructed. This blockage prevents the sperm from reaching the egg or stops the fertilised egg from travelling to the uterus.

In some cases, the blockage allows the fallopian tubes to open slightly, but not enough for fertilisation to occur. In other cases, the tubes may be fully closed, preventing any passage. Since there are usually no clear symptoms, many women only learn about the condition when they experience difficulty conceiving.

There are different types of fallopian tube blockage, including:
