Dr. Aurell is a Senior Medical Director and internationally trained specialist in Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (Autonomous University of Barcelona) in 1991, and his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology for 6 years in the United Kingdom (1991–1997), gaining extensive expertise across prominent institutions including King George Hospital, Barking Hospital, High Wycombe Hospital, and Hammersmith Hospital, London. He furthered his specialization as a Research Fellow in Reproductive Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital, London (1997–1999).
As a doctor, he has worked as a Senior Medical Specialist and IVF Laboratory Medical Lead at the Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, Spain. He later founded the IVF project at Fertility Barcelona, providing clinical and strategic leadership across two hospital-based IVF units at Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona and Centro Médico Teknon. He has also collaborated globally as an International Speaker and Consultant for MERCK since 2013, advising on ART protocols and clinical performance worldwide.
Dr. Ramón Aurell is an active contributor to cutting-edge ART research, serving as an author and co-author of multiple publications in prestigious national and international journals and medical textbooks. His main research is focused on novel methodologies to improve embryo implantation, including the OXO Project and innovative stem cell therapy for Asherman’s Syndrome, with work accepted for publication in The Lancet (2025).
He has participated as a speaker and contributor in several international conferences and scientific sessions and is also a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF), the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO), and the Catalan Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
