Tubal Assessment – Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

HSG is carried out in females facing problems in getting pregnant. Hysterosalpingogram helps diagnose if tubal problems are the reason behind infertility and physician can decide what treatment course can work for females.

Hysterosalpingogram is generally performed after the female’s menstrual cycle i.e., the proliferative phase. The time duration can be a few days or a week. This is done to make sure that the patient is not pregnant.
An speculum is is inserted into the vagina so that the cervix remains visible. After that, the cervix is cleaned and a cannula is also inserted. The dye flows into the uterus and the fallopian tubes via cannula. Then, the X-ray images are taken once the dye flows through. These images show up the internal structure of the uterus and fallopian tube.
